Sunken Gardens - St. Petersburg, FL
The last time Jesús and I visited the Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg, FL, it was 2015, we were newly dating and traveling up from Fort Myers to take photos with friends one afternoon. To think that we now live down the street from this beautiful botanical garden in the heart of St. Pete, 4 years later and married, is the coolest, funniest thing. I really love the chance to revisit places that remind me of how much change and growth always comes with time.
Sunken Gardens is a place that’s so special to me and the city of St. Pete, I wanted to highlight it by featuring our recent visit; a Sunday afternoon spent walking around their thousands of tropical plants and flowers, under a really beautiful, overcast sky.
Jesús and I have made it our mission to embrace our tropical, hot and sweaty summers in South Florida more than ever this year (rather than complain about the heat and humidity as we so often have done in the past). We’ve found that places like the Sunken Gardens make it truly easy to soak in the kind of unique beauty that Florida offers us all year round.
So, St. Pete locals or visiting friends - I highly recommend checking this spot out the next time you get a chance!
Sunken Gardens is located super close to Downtown St. Petersburg, and although you could spend hours there - taking your time to explore, sit or even read in the garden - some might find it to be a relatively quick activity. After all, the Gardens are not incredibly large or expansive.
In order to plan a full day around your visit here, I’d highly recommend following it up with a lunch nearby, and/or a trip to the Dalí Museum or the Chihuly Collection afterward.
