Why Your Brand Needs an Email List

If you’re in the camp of creatives that deep down knows the importance of having an email list for your business, but you’re confused as heck (and let’s be honest, a little intimidated) by the idea of getting it started, then you’re in the same exact spot that I was about a year and a half ago.

Now that I’m here to report back from the other side of the goal to grow an email community around Chez Núñez (a goal that so often got pushed to the bottom of the to-do list), let me just assure you that taking the leap to start or revive your list, and nurture your email community is WORTH IT! Your brand truly will thank you for it in the long run.

Here’s Why Your Brand Needs an Email List:

  1. Emails are not going away anytime soon.
Email marketing may not feel as fun, sexy, instantly gratifying, or straight-forward as social media, but the sooner you pay more love and attention to your email fam, the better! The use of social platforms can rise and fall, but email has been a tried and true way way of getting in touch with one another. It’s such a standard form of communication that just about everyone has an email address. And since email is likely to continue to stick around for a really long time, we may as well get good at using it to communicate on behalf of our brands!

  2. In the process of sending out content via email, you can make sure that your audience at least has the guaranteed chance to see and interact with what you’ve created for them!
As we all know, we don’t own our spaces on social media - meaning, there’s no way for us to control who or how many people in our audience will see what we’ve posted. When we post to IG or Facebook, we’re essentially throwing our work out there, crossing our fingers, and hoping that the content we worked hard on, lands in front of the people we want to speak to. When I send out an email, I don’t have to wonder if my audience got my message - I know that my email landed in their inbox for them to potentially open. That fact just makes my heart happy.

  3. Social media apps work really hard to keep people in their app, whereas emails do a great job of leading people into a space that we actually own (aka, our website, blog, or online shop). Emails are also incredibly effective tools for converting sales!
Only 12% of the sales for our Chez Núñez Lightroom Presets have come from social media… the rest? Pinterest, direct searches, and EMAIL campaigns!

  4. Emails allow you to connect and serve your audience on a deep, personal, and super helpful level.
I can expand upon words of encouragement, and offer resources and digital freebies through my emails in a way that social media just doesn’t support. Our monthly, value-packed Newsletter, Free Coloring Pages and 7-Question Brand Discovery Guide have led to such meaningful and rich connections with my Chez Núñez fam - and those are only made available through having an email list.

  5. Perhaps my favorite reason as to why all brands need an email list is this: email lists are made up of our true fans. They’re a space for our people!
The added little step that it takes someone to join my email list, is basically the moment where that newcomer and I go from being social media buddies to official BFFs. Those on your email list are those who raised their hands and said, “hey, I love what you make so much, I’m sure that I want to see more of it!” How freaking sweet is that?

When I started my email list in January of 2019, I was using Mailchimp and quite frankly… hated it. About a month ago, I learned about and signed up for Flodesk and fell in LOVE with the process of crafting emails in their platform to better serve our Chez Núñez audience. Email marketing now feels easier than ever with Flodesk.
