Casas de Núñez: Bathroom Remodel with Zia Tile
In August 2020 we (Anna + Jesús) bought our first investment property and fixer-upper. While renovating the primary bathroom of our main house, we had the absolute honor of collaborating with Zia Tile. Zia provided our beautiful shower and floor tiles in exchange for content and promotion. We’re so thankful to have gotten to work with them in the process of remodeling this new space in our home!
As we said in our Kitchen Remodel blog post - Zia Tile has become one of our favorite tile companies around. Their customer service is wonderful and the quality of their products is so evident. Not to mention, we think that the designs of their tiles are some of the coolest that we’ve ever seen. We can’t wait to use their products again in the future!
When we set out to design the bathroom, we had a lot of freedom in reworking the space since we knew that it would need to be completely gutted. The initial condition of the bathroom was truly unlivable. (Like the bathtub may have fallen through the floors if we had filled it up with water.)
Through the renovation process, we removed the old tub, sink and toilet, re-routed the plumbing, reinforced the studs in the walls, supported the floor joists, and added new sub-floors. We also relocated the doorway to enter the bathroom so that we could make better use of the bedroom and add a closet to the bedroom layout.
Then we started rebuilding the bathroom from the ground up.
As we began planning out the creative direction for the bathroom, we became really obsessed with the idea of centering the design around a large area of color. We originally were drawn to green, yellow, or pink, and loved the idea of incorporating this statement of color through a walk-in shower with floor-to-ceiling tile.
Then we found Zia Tile’s Jaipur Pink 2x8 Cement Tile and everything else in the room seemed to fall right into place from there. We paired the pink wall tile with their Oslo Hexagon Cement Tile in Grey/White to incorporate a neutral, yet dynamic floor in the bathroom and added some white Penny tiles to the shower floor. These selections gave the whole space a lot of relaxing, inviting, warm, soothing spa vibes.
We used Mapei Flexicolor CQ grout in “Alabaster” to compliment the pink tile and offer a subtle pop against the penny tile, and we sealed the tiles with 511 Porous Plus Sealer from Miracle Sealants. These suggestions are all sent in a instructional guide by Zia upon purchase of their tile.
Our long oval mirror is from Crate & Barrel, and the vanity and lights are IKEA. We found the shower and sink fixtures on Amazon.
